And check to check is extremely hard to shake if all of your money is in one place, or in 2 places tight as peanut butter & jelly. 🫣⁣

Separate your money and don’t make it easy to shuffle.⁣

🔹 Checking: bills, variable spending, checking account cushion⁣
🔹 Traditional savings: 10-20% of your emergency fund, short-term savings (to be spent in the next 1-2 months)⁣
🔹 High-yield savings: savings efforts (sinking funds) including the remainder of your emergency fund⁣

and of course investment accounts!⁣

✨✨I absolutely love the @ally online savings (high yield savings) account! We’ve had an Ally account for 2 years and have been extremely happy. Ally allows you to setup up to 10 buckets inside of your HYSA and it consistently has a competitive APY (defined below)✨✨⁣

APY = annual percentage yield = “amount paid to YOU” = the interest that the bank pays you for staging your funds there ⁣

👉🏽 To do TODAY: Look for a high yield savings account offered by an FDIC-insured bank. Make sure it has a competitive APY. As of Sep 2022, a competitive rate is 2%. (A typical traditional savings account APY is 0.01% 😧)⁣

Determine where you stand with credit cards, and understand that they are most likely the largest threat to your progress if they are left unattended (aka you only make minimum payments). ⁣

We gotta kill ‘em with fire ASAP. 🔥⁣

Make the payoff a priority.⁣

Craft a bare-bones budget with a bit of cushion for your checking account, take a look at what you have leftover, and assign the dollars to 2 goals: emergency fund and credit card payoff. ⁣

Devote more to the latter for now.⁣
⁣
If you’re investing, dial it back to employer match ONLY. Nothing more. If you invest beyond that with credit card debt in the equation, you are hustling backwards. It’s that simple. ⁣

After 1-2 times doing this, you’ll have the data you need to build a realistic, budget that will help you rather than enable you. 👉🏽 Your budget isn’t designed to enable your bad habits.
